Up for auction is a 1947 Willy's CJ2A Jeep*** Update: The reserve has been removed and the jeeps price has been lowered.***
In addition, if you are interested in this jeep and are out of the state or farther than you want to drive to come get it, keep in mind that Ebay offers a shipping service. It is called Uship, The link is just below the add to watchlist link in this listing. They will give you instant quotes on what it will cost to ship to your destination. I have not used it, but it looks reasonably priced and easy to use.
About the Jeep:
This jeep has great bones, if you are looking for a Willy's CJ2A this one has lots to offer.
It has been restored / rebuilt and is a great running and driving flat fender. It usually starts up on the first bump of the starter and idles great.
I purchased this flat fender many years ago for a project. When I got it, nothing worked, and it barely ran. I stripped it to a bare frame and went through absolutely everything. Every nut, bolt, and part, was disassembled, rebuilt or replaced. After the restoration it was used as a trail rig for about 5 years. It is a lot of fun and is a very capable little four wheeler, we took it lots of places, it is light weight and nimble and kept up with much more capable rigs on the trail. During this use it did frequently get dirty and did get some scratches, scuffs, and dings on it. The wife and I used to go on lots of trips with it until we had a baby. At that point it was not a practical vehicle for us. So, unfortunately it sat in the garage unused, one thing led to another and it sat for more than the last 10 years. I have finally come to terms with the idea of selling it.
So since it had gas in it from when it got parked many years ago, last month I put a new gas tank, fuel line, and carburetor on it.
It then fired right up like always. There is a lot to know about this jeep, so I have listed the good and bad below.
The GOOD:
Although this jeep has a lot of years on it since the rebuild it only has 4075 miles on it and has always been stored inside.
As mentioned EVERYTHING was replaced or rebuilt when the restoration happened, and everything on It works like it should.
There are a few pics of it during the rebuild, which was many years ago.
The frame was repaired, reinforced, and then powder coated. The front of the frame was boxed, plated, and reinforced, see pic.
All of the sheet metal was replaced with the exception of the tailgate.
There is NO serious rust or rot on this jeep, it is 100% solid. The Glass is new, and has an M-38/CJ3A wind shield frame on it.
The front axle was upgraded to a Dana 30 with a Detroit True Trac
helical-gear style, limited-slip differential with a Warn diff skid plate cover, it has disc brakes and alloy axles. A modern dual reservoir master cylinder. It has a Steering box from CJ-5 as an upgrade from the stock 47 box. The steering column was a brand new Flaming River tilt column with an adjustable steering shaft. It has Autometer gauges and a custom locking console where the ignition switch and push to start switch are kept. High back seats and harness style seat belts are attached to the 8 Point cage.
The rear axle is a Dana 44 with a Trac loc posi and a Warn full floating axle kit with alloy axles with splines on both ends and 11" drum brakes. You get exceptional strength with a full floating axle, since the wheels are supported by a pair of wheel bearings on a spindle just like the front instead of the axle holding the wheel on and supporting it. In addition both rear wheels have Warn premium locking hubs on them, just like the front. This means that if you ever want to flat tow it, as we did a lot, all you have to do is unlock 4 hubs and you are ready to go.
With the updated brakes this jeep stops well. The suspension is Rancho lifted springs and shocks.
The engine is a Ford 2 liter 4 cylinder that has only 4075 miles on it since the rebuild, It was fully rebuilt by a local machine shop.
It has a new Weber type carburetor on it, a header, and electronic ignition in the stock distributor. As mentioned the brand new gas tank, sending unit,
fuel line, and carb last month.
Transmission and Transfer case were rebuilt and upgraded in full with all new bearings, and most gears. Brand new clutch and flywheel were installed when built. Tires are 32 x11.50x15 Good year MT/R on steel wheels.
On the front is a Mile Marker 9000lb winch in good working order, and I believe it has a 100ft cable on it.
The jeep comes with what you see, plus the winch remote and a bikini top.
The BAD:
Not that it is a bad thing, but this jeeps primary use was being a trail rig, and therefore has some trail use wear. Most obviously there is some rock rash on the driver rear corner, not really sheet metal damage, just mainly paint damage, also a scuff on the passenger rear corner as well. This damage is clearly shown in the pics.
This is Not a show vehicle and therefore has some dirt, scratches, scuffs, dings, and wear. However It is still a great looking Willy's, jeep, but just be aware of this.
I do have a small amount of the original blue paint by the way, I had intended to fix the rock rash, but have been just too busy to do it, I will send it with the jeep, in case you want to fix it, at least the color will match.
The tires still look great, and have lots of tread, but they are very, very old. They still feel great, but once it starts being used regularly again, they may start to deteriorate, just a heads up.
The front shocks seem to work fine, but they do have a few dents in them.
I did recently go through this and have been driving it a bit lately now, but it was sitting for a very long time, I really don't remember what was going on with it when I parked it. So there is the possibility that it may need some going through down the road.
Like I said above, everything was new and in good working order when I parked it, but it was a long while ago...
Flat fenders are not super spacious vehicles. If you are big or tall, it may be a squeeze for you to drive it.
I am 5'10" and currently about 185lbs. when I sit in it my knees are bent and it is Cozy!
Especially with the tall back seats.
I was younger when I used to drive it regularly, It feels a bit smaller now than it used to, LoL.
But if you are in the market for a flat fender, you probably already know about the size limitations. You can always switch seats, or notch the driver rear fender and push the driver seat back to help with crowding as needed. Just thought I should mention it.
Lastly, although many of the components are more modern than what came with it, please keep in mind that this is an antique and still basically a 1947 Jeep. That being said, they sure were great tough old jeeps!
You can pick it up in Camarillo Ca, or I am willing to work with your shipper, if you set up a pick up to have it shipped to you.
Let me know and I will help all I can. It is located at a commercial building currently, so big trucks are not a problem.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks for looking!
*** BY THE WAY, I HAVE A DAUNTLESS V-6 AND AN SM-420 4 SPEED GRANNY LOW TRANSMISSION, ( 7 to 1 First gear, lowest ever in a passenger trans ) THESE COULD BE HAD FOR AN ADDITIONAL PRICE IF SOMEONE WANTED TO UPGRADE THIS FLAT FENDER. I GOT THESE YEARS AGO WITH THE INTENTION OF INSTALLING THEM IN THIS JEEP, BUT NEVER GOT AROUND TO IT. Trans was rebuilt and is in good running shape, engine is an unknown, never got that far with it ***
